Programs related to music and history. The folk material is an ideal fit for different educational themes.

Students will learn what the words "folklore", "tradition" and "jigs" mean. They will also learn 3 or 4 songs and how to jig and discover several instruments of Folklore: harmonica, jaw harps, guitar, feet, bones, spoons and “bonhomme gigueurs”. They will learn the basic rhythms to play spoons and everyone will have the chance to play spoons to accompany a song.

Requirements

Sound system required for audiences of more than 60 people (to be provided by the school, according to the information provided by the artist).  Or possibilities that the artist provides the sound system with a school collaboration for installation and sound adjustments.

Description

Singer, multi-instrumentalist and ethnologist, MONIQUE JUTRAS has been producing shows for nearly thirty years in Quebec, Canada and abroad in diverse contexts. With her show / workshop "Chantons et turlutons" it makes the public discover the picturesque aspects of Quebec and French folklore of America : response songs, jigs , spoons, bones, jigging, harmonica, accordion, mouth harp, “Bonhomme Gigueur” in solo; may be accompanied by a violin and / or duo or trio. The presentations are dynamic and educational, involve the public participation to discover the origins of musical traditions specific to francophones.
